PAAAAAIIIIIIINNNN
Been there…
When it takes you an hour to get out of bed in the morning, because your back is not quite agreeing with your life choices…
Not quite as extreme as some of the other issues, that I overcome and treat. Oh, have I been there with the back however. I am a small guy, my wife and I ran a very successful karate school at one time, and had a lot of students who were bigger than me.
Yes, martial arts is about technique, and strategy, and endless hours of drilling practice. But bottom line - when you are 5'3", and working out with guys who are 6’3 and out weigh you by 100 lbs day in and day out - there is going to be some damage done. Especially me.,.. I was VERY tough and can take hits, so I would. Yes, that sounds stupid. I would gladly take a shot to give shot when I was fighting, and I took a LOT of falls, to take a larger person down.
Hey, I got paid to wear pajamas, break stuff and beat people up for years… It was a charmed life.
My L4/L5 junction in the back does not agree. One of the thoracic and a cervical agreed with L4 on this matter.
The time that ATV flipped on me, and I was stuck laying in the desert unable to move, did not help my case against L4 and his friends….
Then came the torn soleus and hip flexor… That was a year that was “Less than pleasant"....
Well, I am Dr Sean - right? Lot of talking to people who know more than me, a lot of practice what I preach, and a lot of hard work, discipline, and respect for myself and others, and my back is better than it has been in many many years.
Put it this way - I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the age of 53. It is that healed and healthy.
We can do this - Chronic pain is the most difficult to beat of any of the diseases I have worked though, but it is possible.
